In our class meeting last week we discussed how even though we are all different, we all fit together into one class. We all come from different family backgrounds, but we all fit together. Each student decorated a piece of our "puzzle". The students chose a symbol, a picture or words that described their personalities or interests and illustrated these things on their puzzle piece. Our #5 is displayed outside of our classroom door!
Today in Social Studies class we practiced our latitude and longitude with oranges! We drew and labeled lines of latitude with markers. Then we peeled our oranges and looked at the lines of latitude. The best part was eating the oranges when we were finished!
Today, everyone was dressed up for picture day! We had a prayer service right after recess to celebrate the Virgin Mary's birthday. Fr. Joseph was nice enough to lead this for us. We also started work on our 3-D Self-Portraits in art class today.
In between rounds of our flashcard tournament we are having some fun with states and capitals games.
We started the first flashcard tournament of the year yesterday in Social Studies class! We are mastering our basic geography terms. Round 2 will begin today!
We read the story The Dot by Peter Reynolds. It is a story about believing in yourself and believing in your Artwork. The students then created an image starting with only "one dot" on their paper. They could create their dot into whatever they wanted. The students used no pencil. They started right away with permanent markers since there could be no "mistakes" in this project. After completing their drawings, they filled in color with tempera paint.
We had a great frist week of school! We spent a lot of time getting organized and learning procedures! We also took some time to have some fun and get to know all of our classmates! Check out some pictures below!
